Marie Murrell

Marie lives in the Chicago area and works in watercolor, focusing on portraits and figures. She began drawing portraits in elementary school because, even as a child, she was fascinated by the imperfect beauty of humanity. While Marie has worked in a variety of mediums, she now paints exclusively watercolor because combining paints and water enable her to create subtleties that reflect the nuances of her subjects’ raw truth.

While not formally educated, Marie has attended many classes and workshops. Some of the teachers who have been most influential are Peggy Taylor, Lenox Wallace, and Ted Nuttall.

Marie’s work has been accepted into the Illinois Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America and is displayed in many private collections throughout the United States.

Marie currently teaches watercolor portraiture at the La Grange Art League. Originals, commissions and Giclee prints available upon request.
